How to apply for a scholarship on National Scholarship Portal?

If you are eligible for the NSP scholarship then you can apply for the same in online mode. To start the application process, you need to register as a new user on the official website. Here is the step by step process to apply for NSP scholarships.

1^st Step – New Registration on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

• To begin with, you need to visit the home page of the official National Scholarship Portal.
• Then, Click on the “New Registration” button from the top of the home page.
• Read the registration guidelines on the next page and click “Continue”.

Note: The application form of the students below the age of 18 needs to be filled by the parents/ guardians.

• Fill all the details for fresh registration and click “Register” from the bottom of the page.
• Once, you are registered, you will receive an Application ID and OTP (one time password) sent by NSP on your phone number.

2^nd Step – Log in with One Time Password (OTP)

• Find and click on the login button from the top of the official website.
• Next, you should enter the Application ID and OTP received after registration.
• Also, enter the captcha code from the bottom of the window and click “Login”.

3^rd Step – Create a new password

• The OTP that you will receive after registration will be valid for the first sign-in only.
• After logging in for the first time, you have to create a new password.
• You should try to create a password in such a way that you may remember it quite easily.

4^th Step – Fill the application form

• After changing the password, you may enter the Applicant’s dashboard page.
• To apply, you need to click on the “Application form” button.
• In the next step, you have to enter all the necessary academic, personal, and contact details. Some of the details to be entered in the application form are as follows.
  • Date of Birth (DOB)
  • State of Domicile
  • Scholarship Category

• In order to apply using an android phone, you may download and install the NSP app from the Google play store.
• The option to access NSP app is also available through the “Umang” app.

How to track National Scholarship Portal Applications?

Usually, it takes some time for the authorities to process the application received via NSP. In the meantime, you may track your application. Here is how you track a national scholarship portal application.

• Log in to the portal by providing your credentials generated at the time of registration.
• Go the Applicant’s dashboard and open the “Check your status” tab.
• The status of the application i.e. whether it is submitted properly or not will appear on your screen.
• Remember, the option to check the status will be available on the web version as well as on NSP mobile app.

NSP – Frequently Asked Questions

Question – 1: Is it possible to edit the application form once submitted?

Answer: You can edit the details entered till the closure of the application form only. The application is forwarded to the next level after the final submission. So, it cannot be edited.

Question – 2: What if I found a mistake in the application form after it gets forwarded to the next level?

Answer: In such cases, you must inform the authorities (Institute/District/Region/State) about the mistake detected by you.

Question – 3: Is it necessary to have an Aadhaar Card to apply for the scholarship?

Answer: No, Aadhar Card is not mandatory to get a scholarship. However, you need to provide your Aadhar Enrollment ID in such a case. In few states including Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram Aadhar Number is not mandatory.

Question – 4: What is the amount of financial aid that I can get through the National Scholarship Portal?

Answer: The amount varies for the different scholarships. To know that, you have to check the information about that particular scholarship for which you are applying.   

Question – 5: If I got selected for the scholarship, how will I receive the amount?

Answer: Please note that the scholarship amount is distributed through the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) scheme into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

Question – 6: Do I need to provide bank account details in the application form?

Answer: Yes, as the authorities transfer the amount into the bank account of the beneficiaries you have to provide account details while filling the application form.

Question – 7: What documents are necessary to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal?

Answer: Different documents are required to apply for various scholarships. To know details about the documents, you need to check the information of the particular scholarship for which you want to apply.

Question – 8: I am a renewal candidate; can I apply as a fresh?

Answer: You should not apply as fresh. Otherwise, your application will be rejected.

Question – 9: What fields are not editable in the application form?

Answer: The Aadhaar and Enrollment ID are not editable at any stage. So, you should be very careful while entering these details.

Question – 10: Is it compulsory to upload the scanned images of the signature in the application form?

Answer: No, the digital signatures are not mandatory in order to register for the NSP application.

Question – 11: What if I forget my “Application ID”?

Answer: In such a case, you should click on the “Forgot Application ID” option that will appear on the login window. You can use the Search by Bank Account Number or Search by Mobile Number options to overcome this problem.

Answer: You may contact the state/ institute to edit any of the following fields – Gender, Religion, Category, Profession, Annual Income, Aadhar Number, Disability, Day Scholar/Hostler, Mode of Study, IFSC Code, Account No., Admission Fees, and Tuition Fees.
