CLAT Syllabus 2024: Check Section Wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern

The syllabus of CLAT exam consist of various topics from English, Mathematics, General Knowledge, Reasoning, etc. CLAT or Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level examination. The exam is organized for providing admission to various Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs in the field of Law. Consortium of National Law Universities is the authority that manages this admission process. Candidates must go through the CLAT syllabus carefully in order to clear the exam with flying colours. In this article, we are going to provide all the necessary information related to the CLAT syllabus 2024.

CLAT Syllabus 2024

English Language

  • English Vocabulary: Antonyms, Synonyms and Analogies.
  • English Proficiency: Idioms and Phrases, One Word Substitution, Sentence Improvement, Rearrangement of Sentence in Paragraph, Rearrangement of Words in Sentence, Fill in the blanks and Cloze Tests.
  • English Usage Errors: Common Errors, Spotting Errors, Inappropriate Usage of Words and Spelling Mistakes (English Usage), Use of Correct Word.
  • English Comprehension: You will get a paragraph. Questions will be asked from that paragraph only. You need to understand the para accurately and answer the questions accordingly.

Current Affairs including General Knowledge

  • Events of National and International importance also covering current events in area of Economics, Science, Technology, Sports, Persons and Places, Static GK & Latest Happening, Books and Authors.

Legal Reasoning

  • Questions in this section are designed to judge candidate’s knowledge in study of the law, research aptitude and problem solving ability.
  • Candidates will be expected to  read passages of around 450 words each
  • Each passage will also have a series of questions. These question will require you to
    • Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage;
    • Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
    • Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations.

Logical Reasoning

  • Reasoning Tests: Direction and Distance Test, Analogy Test, Classification (Odd Man Out) Test, Coding Decoding Test, Number Test, Series Test, Relationships Test, Alphabet Test, Ranking Tests and Time Sequence Test.
  • Logic Tests: Statements Assumptions, Statements Arguments, Statements Conclusions and Statements Action.

Quantitative Techniques

  • Arithmetic (Number Theory): Number Systems, Surds and Indices, Square Roots, Fractions and Decimals, HCF and LCM, Simplification, Approximations, Ratio and Proportion, Average and Logarithms.
  • Commercial Maths: Interest, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Partnership and Discounts.
  • Mensuration: Areas and Volumes.

The exam pattern is different for UG and PG courses as given below.

UG Courses Exam Pattern

  • Mode of examination – Online (Computer based test)
  • Type of questions – Objective type multiple choice questions
  • Number of questions – 150
  • Language of questions – English language only
  • Maximum Marks – 150
  • Marking Scheme – Each question will carry 1 mark
  • Negative Marking – Not applicable.

  • Type of questions – Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions + 2 descriptive type questions
  • Number of questions – 102

  • Maximum Marks – 150
  • Marking Scheme – Each question will carry 1 mark. 25 marks each for descriptive type questions
  • Negative Marking – 0.25 will be deducted in case of an incorrect answer

CLAT Preparation Tips

Here are some tips that can help your clear the CLAT examination.

  • You should try to give each subject equal time and focus.
  • Prepare a timetable and follow it strictly.
  • To get more idea about the time, you should try to solve last year’s question paper.
  • You should also try to solve some model test paper.
  • Complete your syllabus at least 1 week before the exam and leave the last week for revision.
  • Keep yourself calm, fit, and don’t get panic during the exam preparation.
