UPSC ESE 2024: Application Form (6 September), Eligibility Criteria, Exam Date

UPSC will be conducting Engineering Services Examination 2024 (ESE) to select the candidates for different posts/ services in different government departments. The selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of their performance in preliminary exam, main exam and interview. Applicants will be able to fill their application form in online mode most. However, candidates are suggested to ensure their eligibility before applying for the exam. Complete details of the UPSC ESE 2024 are provided in this article.

UPSC ESE 2024 Highlights

  • Candidates qualifying the pre exam will have to fill a detailed application form (DAF) at a later stage. Choice of post should be provided at the time of filling the DAF.
  • Choice for post must be provided carefully and only if the eligibility for the specific post is fulfilled.
  • In case of multiple applications, the application with higher RID will be considered by the Commission.
  • Candidates, who do not want to appear at the examination, may withdraw their application within the given time period.
  • No provision for refund of fees will however be provided even after the withdrawal of application.

  • General Studies and Engineering Aptitude: Current Issues National & International Relating To Social, Economic & Industrial Development, Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability, Engineering Mathematics & Numerical Analysis, etc
  • Civil Engineering: Building Materials, Solid Mechanics, Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, etc
  • Mechanical Engineering: Fluid Mechanics, Turbo Machinery, Power Plant Engineering, Design of Machine Elements, Mechatronics & Robotics, Engineering Mechanics, etc
  • Electrical Engineering: Electrical Materials, Electric Circuits and Fields, Engineering Mathematics, Analog and Digital Electronics, Electrical Machines, etc
  • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering: Basic Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Analog & Digital Circuits, Computer Organization & Architecture, Advanced Communication Topics, etc

UPSC ESE 2024 Application Form

The application form for UPSC ESE 2024 will be made available in online mode. The candidates will be able to fill and submit their applications by visiting the official UPSC website upsconline.nic.in.

  • The candidates will have to fill the form by providing their basic details related to personal life, educational background, experience (if any), etc.
  • A valid email id and contact number should also be provided into the application form.
  • Scanned copies of important document (photograph and signature) and choice for exam city will also have to be provided in the form.
  • All the details must be submitted very carefully into the form and multiple applications should be avoided.
  • Once the required details are entered, the candidates can submit their form along with the desired application fee.
  • After the form is submitted successfully, the candidates should take its printout and keep it safe for future reference.

Application fee:

  • The application fee will be Rs. 200/-. SC/ ST/ PH/ female candidates will be exempted from application fee payment.
  • Application fee can be paid through cash deposit in SBI branch or SBI net banking or any bank credit card/ debit card.
  • Fee once paid will not be refunded or adjusted under any circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria

The following eligibility criteria must be fulfilled for UPSC ESE 2024:

Nationality:

A candidate must be either a:

  • Citizen of India, or
  • Subject of Nepal, or
  • Subject of Bhutan, or
  • Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India.

Age limit:

  • The minimum age of the candidates should be 21 years and maximum age should be 30 years (not attained) as on 1st January 2024.
  • The upper age limit will be relaxed upto 35 years in the case of Government servants if they are employed in such department and apply for such post as given below, given they are permanent employee or have been continuously in a temporary service on a regular basis.

Relaxation in upper age:

  • 5 years for SC/ ST candidates
  • 3 years for OBC candidates
  • 10 years for PwBD candidates
  • 5 years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st of December, 1989
  • 3 years in the case of Defence Services Personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof
  • 5 years in the case of Ex-Servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/ SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st January, 2024 and have been released (i) on completion of assignment (or will be completed within one year from 1st January, 2024 ) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or (ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service or (iii) on invalidment
  • 5 years in the case of ECOs/ SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of 5 years Military Service as on 1st January, 2024 and whose assignment has been extended beyond 5 years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issue a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on 3 month’s notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment

Educational Qualification:

The candidates with any of the following qualifications are eligible:

  • Candidates with a degree in engineering from a recognized university or
  • Those who have passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) or
  • Applicants holding a degree/ diploma in engineering from such foreign University/ College/ Institution as recognized by the Government, or
  • The candidates who have passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) or
  • Applicants who have passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/ Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India or
  • Those who have cleared Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

For the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group, candidates with these qualifications can also apply:

  • Indian Naval Armament Service:Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject.
  • Indian Radio Regulatory Service:Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a subject or Master’s Degree in Science with Physics and Radio Communication or Electronics or Telecommunication as a special subject.

Admit Card

  • The admit card/ admission certificate for UPSC ESE 2024 will be released on the official website of UPSC upsc.gov.in.
  • Candidates are required to carry a printout of the admit card and carry it to the examination center.
  • Along with the admit card, the candidates will also have to carry a photo identity proof to the exam center.
  • In case of absence of admit card or id proof, the candidates will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
  • Admit card for pre and main exam will be released separately depending on the eligibility of the candidates.

Result

  • Result of both preliminary and the main exam will be announced in online mode as per the specified schedule.
  • The applicants will be able to check their result by visiting the official UPSC website.
  • Candidates who clear the pre exam will be allowed to appear for the main exam.
  • Those applicants who clear both the exams will have to appear for the interview/ personality test round.
  • After clearing all the rounds, the candidates will be eligible for recruitment to different posts as per their choice and eligibility.
