NIFT 2020

Admission into different courses offered by NIFT will be given on the basis of entrance test followed by situation test, GD and PI. The exam will be held as pen and paper based test and will be conducted most probably in the month of January 2020. Interested candidates who are eligible for the program as well can apply online for admission. The application form will be supposedly released in the month of October 2019. Major Highlights of NIFT 2020

  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply provided that they acquire the minimum prescribed qualifications at the time of admission.
  • Candidates will be allowed to provide choice for one and only one city for exam center.
  • At any stage if it is found that the information provided by the candidate is incorrect, his/her candidature will be canceled.
  • 15% of total seats will be reserved for admission of Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or abroad) and Non Resident Indian holding an Indian passport.
  • Admission to such candidates will be given on the basis of their SAT/ GMAT/ GRE score.

Creative Ability Test (CAT): Test to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development & design ability of the candidate, creative and innovative use of color and illustration skills.

Situation Test: Hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.

Group Discussions: Questions to assess the candidates on parameters such as Conceptual clarity, Knowledge of the topic assigned, Contribution made to the topic, Interpersonal skills, Ability to generate new ideas, Problem solving approach, Leadership qualities and Effective communication.

Personal Interview: Candidates shall be evaluated on the various parameters such as Career orientation, Aptness for the course, overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities, Communication and General awareness and aptitude, creative and lateral thinking.

NIFT Application Form 2020

The candidates will be able to apply online for NIFT 2020 from the website as per the given schedule. Application form will complete and correct details such be submitted before the last date along with the prescribed fee.

  • Application form can be filled by providing basic personal and academic details of the candidates.
  • Candidates’ photograph and signature in scanned format will also be uploaded into the application form.
  • Duly filled application form along with the application fee can then be submitted online.
  • The candidates should take a printout of the filled-in application fee and keep it safe for future reference.
  • For editing in the submitted application, correction window will be provided to the candidates.
  • No change will be possible in the application form after the correction window is closed.

Application fee:

  • The application fee for General/OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates will be Rs. 1500/- and for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates it will be Rs. 750/-.
  • Submission of application fee can be done through payment gateway (debit card/ credit card) or via demand draft.

Eligibility Criteria

The following basic eligibility criteria must be fulfilled by the candidates who wish to appear in the NIFT 2020:

For bachelor’s programmes:

Age limit: The maximum age of the candidates as on 1st October 2019 should not be more than 23 years (28 for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates).


  • For B.Des and B.F.Tech: The candidates should have completed their class 12th exam or minimum 3-year diploma or equivalent exam from a recognized board/ university to be eligible.

For master’s programmes:

Age limit: There will be no age limit for master’s programmes.


  • Des and MFM: An undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognized institute/ university or Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/ NID is required.
  • For M.F.Tech: Those with B.F.Tech from NIFT or BE/ B.Tech from any recognized institute/ university are eligible to apply.

Admit Card

  • The admit card for NIFT entrance exam will be made available to the candidates in online mode.
  • Applicants who submitted their applications successfully will be able to download the admit card from the official website.
  • Details of candidates such as name, roll number and of exam such as center, date, time, etc will be printed on the admit card.
  • Candidates without a valid admit card will not be allowed to take their examination.


  • Result of the NIFT 2020 entrance test will be announced in online mode.
  • Candidates who clear the written test will be allowed to take part in Situation Test, Group Discussions and Personal Interview as applicable.
  • Final result will be declared after these rounds are successfully over.
  • Documents of the candidates will also be verified at the time of group discussions and personal interview.
  • The applicants who meet all the criteria will be granted final admission.
