GATE 2024: Application Form, Exam Date, Eligibility Criteria

GATEGATE is one of the most popular and prestigious engineering entrance exam conducted in order to provide admission to various M.Tech and Ph.D. courses. Apart from providing admission to pg course, the GATE exam is also considered for the recruitment of different public and private sector companies. This exam is conducted annually by different IITs and IISc Bangalore on a rotational Basis. The application form for GATE 2024 exam will be released in the month of September 2023 tentatively. Aspiring candidates will be required to register themselves online in order to apply for GATE  exam. In this article, we are providing complete information about GATE exam for the interested candidates.

GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for Foreign candidates

In case the candidate is pursuing/already completed the qualifying degree from outside of India than he/she must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must have completed or pursuing final year of the 4 year degree program in Engineering or Technology

OR

  • Must have completed or pursuing final year of at least 2 years PG degree programme from a relevant science subject.

Documents Required in support of Eligibility

  1. In case the applicant has passed the qualifying exam then he will be required to submit the Provisional certificate/degree certificate/course completion certificate/professional certificate/membership certificate issued by the respective institute or society.
  2. If the applicant is expected to complete the qualifying criteria then he/she needs to upload the certificate from the head of the Institute or department. A copy of mark sheet for section A AMIE can also be submitted. The certificate uploaded must have the seal and signature of the head of the department or institute.

GATE 2024 Application Form

The application form for GATE 2024 will be submitted through the GOAPS website. A direct link to the application form will also be made available on this page and on the website of IIT that will conduct the GATE 2024 exam.

  • In order to apply for GATE 2024 exam, first of all the candidates will be required to register themselves through GOAPS website. Only one person will be allowed to register with one e-mail id.
  • After successful registration, a unique GOAPS Enrollment ID and GOAPS Password will be sent to the candidate through email.
  • Applicants will be able to access the application form after the due registration; aspirants have to provide all the mandatory personal, educational and contact details in the application form.
  • While filling details in the application form, the candidates have to upload the scanned images of following documents
    • Candidate’s Photograph
    • Candidate’s Signature
    • Category certificate (If applicable)
    • Eligibility Certificate (Degree/Provisional certificate or certificate from the head of institute or Department)
    • Pwd or Dyslexic Certificate (If applicable)
  • Candidates will be able to save the partially filled application form and resume it after logging in later.
  • Do remember to check and verify the details entered carefully before submitting the application form

Instruction to Upload the Photograph and signature

For Photograph

  • The photograph uploaded should be in JPEG format and the dimension should be 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm (Width x Height).
  • The Maximum size of the uploaded image can be 480 x 640 in pixel and the minimum size will be 240 x 320 pixels.
  • The Background of the photograph should be white or light colored.
  • The photograph uploaded should match with the candidate’s appearance on the date of exam

For Signature

  • The format of the image should be JPEG and signature with Black or Dark blue pen will be accepted only.
  • The maximum size of the image will be 160×560 pixels and the minimum size will be 80×280 pixels.

As the GATE exam is conducted by different IITs every year some minor change in exam pattern or syllabus is possible. However the general pattern will remains the same.

For Paper code GG

  • The exam pattern for the Geology and Geophysics (GG) paper will be a little different from rest of the exam.
  • Apart from the 10 Questions of General Aptitude, the question paper will be classified into Part A and Part B.
  • Part A will be mandatory for all the applicants, whereas Part B will have two sections i.e. section 1 (Geology) and Section 2 (Geophysics). The candidates have to attempt only one section from part B.

For XE Paper (Engineering Science)

The applicant aspiring for XE Paper will require answering the following sections

  1. General Aptitude (Carrying 15 Marks)
  2. Section A – Engineering Mathematics (15 Marks)
  3. Any two Sections from B to H ( Each Section will be carrying 35 Marks)

For XL Paper (Life Science)

Similarly to XE Paper aspiring candidates have to answer following sections in the XL Paper

  1. General Aptitude (Carrying 15 Marks)
  2. Section P- Chemistry (25 Marks)
  3. Any two sections from Q to U (Each section will carry 30 Marks)

GATE 2024 Admit Card

The Admit Card for GATE 2024 will be released on the official website of GOAPS most probably in January 2024. It will be compulsory for every candidate to carry one photo identity proof along with the admit card at the examination venue. The admit card will be considered valid only if the photograph and signature of the candidate is clearly visible.

The printout of the admit card should be taken on the A4 size sheet. The authorities will not send any admit card by post or by email.

GATE 2024 Result

GATE 2024 result will be declared on the official website of GOAPS. The score will be valid for three year from the date of its declaration.

Soon after the declaration of result, the qualified candidates will be able to download their GATE scorecards. The scorecards will be available for download for a limited time period only. In case any doesn’t able to download the scorecard in time then he/she can get a softcopy of Scorecard by paying a fee of Rs. 500.

Calculation of GATE Score for All Paper

The Paper which will be completed in one session the actual marks obtained by the candidates will be used in order to calculate GATE 2024 score. For multi sessions paper normalized marks will be considered for calculating GATE 2024 score.

The GATE 2024 will be calculated by applying the following formula:

GATE Score = Sq + ((St  – Sq) (M –Mq)/( M̅t – Mq))

Where,

M: Marks obtained by the applicant

Mq: Qualifying marks for general Category

Mt: Mean of the marks of top 10 candidates or top 0.1% of the candidate who appeared in the paper (whichever is larger)

St: 900, is the score assigned to Mt

Sq: 350, is the score assigned to Mq.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Can I use one email id for submitting multiple application forms?

No, only one application form can be submitted via one email Id.

Question 2: My Internet banking account has been debited more than once. Will I get my money back?

Yes, unaccounted or excess money received on the behalf of GATE will be refunded in the same bank account. This process may take one or more week.

Question 3: Do I have to send a hard copy of the application form to the authorities?

No, there is no requirement to send the printout of the application form.

Question 4: How can I check the status of my application?

The status of an application can be checked by logging into GOAPS website.
